Groceries and Good News

Hello friends! For the past 2 days, I have been walking on sunshine. I interviewed for my dream internship on Tuesday morning and found out Wednesday evening that I was accepted to the position! I was dancing around my apartment all evening in celebration... I had been so nervous about getting the call that I had a stomach ache all day Wednesday and was checking my phone obsessively during class and on my walk home. After 5:30, I figured that they would just call me Thursday morning and I put it out of my mind.
Of course, as soon as I was home and went to the bathroom...they called me! I really hope that accepting an internship while sitting on the toilet doesn't jinx things!

So, starting in August, I will be an intern at my university's counseling center! I'm so excited to start practicing therapy and to have my own clients :) And, I'm a little nervous too...but right now the excitement outweighs it!

Despite cloudy gray weather today, I was all smiles as I did groceries...
And I'll share them with you since you liked seeing my produce-run last week. As I said before, I absolutely love seeing other people's groceries and looking inside of people's refrigerators. Am I am a food-voyeur!?
I got so much stuff today, from two stores:
dried mixed berries
peanut puffs (as you can see, they were opened on the drive home!)
TWO mustards: ground mustard and mustard with herbs
sunflower rye bread
crumbled gorgonzola cheese
diced tomatoes and jalapenos
garlic and chive pita crackers
santa fe trail mix
artisan lettuce mix
bunch of kale
3 apples
1 pear
4 tomatoes
1 box strawberries
bunch of bananas
3 oriental ramen
three bottles of wine
(unpictureed) frozen mixed veggies, frozen edamame
Total = 42.46

You may be thinking, that sounds about average for this amount of food...but it includes the WINE! And I promise I'm not a total wino...this will probably last me through the next two months!
3 new to me wines from Aldi- these cost $11.50 all together!
These peanut puffs are fabulous as well...
The bag smelled exactly like a jar of peanut butter...and the "puffs" had the texture of cheetohs but tasted like straight peanut butter- amazing.
I'm also super excited about these...
Mustard is my favorite condiment (our fridge is already stocked with 3 types)...but I couldn't resist picking these up. I think they will go perfectly with my sunflower rye bread (which was just 1.49!)
As you can see, I love a good deal on groceries! Well, I love a good deal on anything! One thing I want to start doing is using coupons more often.

Do you have any couponing tips?!

Finally, I'd like to update you all on the Bake Sale for Japan. I have been thinking that my little blog is not the best place to host a fundraiser...It took me a while to admit this to myself. Alas, all hope is not lost!
I am donating my goods to Katie's Bake Sale for Japan. Katie is a truly amazing and selfless person- and her blog is fantastic. She grew up in Japan and now lives in my hometown in Texas! She's hosting a vegan bake sale to raise money for Japan and I encourage you all to donate something.
Check out her list of donations- I'm donating a batch of my OMG Cookies and a gift basket of Indian goodies:
Roasted chickpeas, Maggi noodles, Dosa mix (rice flour crepes), Upma mix (spiced cream of wheat), Puliogre powder (to make spicy tamarind rice), biscuits, and jasmine incense.

Phew! This was a lot to pack into one post...if you are still reading...hi!

What is your dream job?

  1. Ah!!! CONGRATULATIONS! That's such amazing news, and you should be really proud of yourself. It'll be tough work, but I know you'll rock it.

My dream job is to teach poetry at an elite liberal arts college (um, did I just actually write that somewhere in public?), and I was just accepted into an MFA program, so hopefully that dream will get closer soon!

(I hope you get some coupon tips to share. I'm terrible about using them, but also love a good deal. Also, you might want to read this: http://whitepicketpassport.wordpress.com/2011/03/30/trader-joes-brands-uncovered/ to find out what brands you can get for less at Trader Joe's.)

There is no price to be put on doing a job that you love. Even if its an unpaid internship (mine was).
    Cheers!

  4. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Sonia how freaking awesome is that!?!?!?! I'm so excited for you!!!!! I had that same feeling when I was waiting to hear back from this job. I made the coach "babysit" me that day cause I was so nervous on my own. He said when I got the offer email I was shaking. Its suuuuch a great feeling after that intense waiting period...at any rate that is killer and I can't wait to read about what a rockstar you are!

  5. Congrats on the internship! That's so amazing!

And I'm dying looking at those groceries. My little apartment kitchen is just begging for fresh groceries, alas I have had no time/money to get them yet. So sad.

As of right now, my dream job is to open up my own PR firm. However, my dreams tend to change from time to time :)
